Explore the causeway coast

The Causeway Coast and Glens area offers a wide range of things to do and places to see, from whisky tasting and tours at Bushmills Distillery, Ireland's oldest licensed distillery, to epic treks along the clifftops of the Giant's Causeway. Challenge yourself on one of the world's top 10 golf courses at Royal Portrush. Explore the ruins and history of Dunluce Castle, take a trip over to Rathlin Island, or a stroll through the Dark Hedges. Refuel and enjoy the warm and welcoming atmosphere in the fabulous cafes, eateries and bars all around the coast. We have some favourite spots we love returning to time and again - we'll be delighted to share our recommendations with you.

White Park Bay

Spectacular sandy beach that connects the picturesque villages of Portbradden and Ballintoy.
Not safe for swimming, but, as an important site for conservation and a rich habitat for bird and animal life, there is plenty to see and do.

White Rocks Beach & Royal Portrush Golf Club

[11 km from Peatlands]
Just 10 mins drive from Peatlands, this is our closest beach. The world-famous links of Royal Portrush meet the sandhills here. Limestone cliffs, caves and arches frame the strand and coastline beyond. A section of cliff path offers spectacular views toward Dunluce Castle and the Giant's Causeway.

East Strand - Portrush

The continuous stretch of sand from White Rocks beach brings you to the East Strand in Portrush. The beach is popular with water sports enthusiasts all year round and is also the start-finish for the weekly parkrun along the beach.

Portstewart Promenade

[16 km from Peatlands]
A picturesque strip of shops, cafes, bars and ice-cream parlours facing the harbour and seafront, with views to Donegal. Portstewart Strand, a two-mile stretch of golden sand, can be reached via the "Nuns' Walk" cliff path.

Portrush

[14 km from Peatlands]
Portrush town is a coastal resort built on a 1-mile long peninsula, flanked by beaches and ending in the harbour and Ramore Head. It's a popular tourist destination with lots to see and do all year round.

Dunluce Castle

[12 km from Peatlands]
The dramatic ruins of Dunluce Castle are a must-see. Perched on a craggy headland between Portrush and Portballintrae, these ruins have many stories to tell. Visitor guides, activities and info can be accessed via the ticket office on site.

Giant's Causeway

[15 km from Peatlands]
UNESCO world heritage site, where you can choose among many routes and paths to explore the magnificent basalt columns and cliffs. Spectacular and wild, with a superb visitor centre.

Glenariff Forest Park

[39 km from Peatlands]
If you have time for one glen, we highly recommend Glenariff and the beautiful, lush forest park with its board walks and waterfalls. Take a picnic or make a pub stop and enjoy a paddle in its pools and creeks.

Garry Bog

[1 km from Peatlands]
A true hidden gem right on our doorstep, Garry Bog is an internationally recognised site for science and conservation. With paths open to the public, visitors can explore the amazingly wild and biodiverse peatland habitat that is a unique and important part of our natural environment and cultural heritage.

Unknown Places

There are countless lesser-known, off-the-beaten track destinations to discover on the Causeway Coast. On this day, we headed east from Peatlands, parked up in thick fog and went for a run in a forest nearby. This place was stunningly beautiful and eerily silent. Do leave some time to find your own "hidden gems"!
